Dirk Vander Kooij, real craftsman & 3DPrinterman…

This Dutch designer Dirk Vander Kooij is a true craftsman, although most of the things he produces are actually not made by hand,  Dirk is a new kind of craftsman, one who embraces technology and machines.

In his work Dirk combines tradition and technology, mixing manual work and digital robot technique, every piece of furniture is produced as a special industrial “unicum”. He is not interested in standardization or mass production. He use residual recycled plastic from refrigerators,  actually too beautiful to dump. Therefore collected residual material pieces go with their own specific history, color and pattern into a melting pot with a 3D printer.

He creates superb tables, the chubby chair called also “thick sausage chair”, the transparent floor lamp and many more. Based in an old munitions factory, Studio Dirk Vander Kooij is one of the first new generation craftsman. Most of his collection is represented at “Gallery Oode”  in Amsterdam (Singel 159A).
