Nienke Hoogvliet, Hymn to the sea…

Nienke Hoogvliet, a young Dutch designer that we met at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. She is inspired by nature and particularly by the richness that stems from oceans. Nienke is working on a collection called; “Sea me”, carpets made out of wool that originates from sea weeds, entirely made by hand. She uses finishing nets as weaves. During her numerous strolls along the beach bays in the North, she was marked by the litter and had an urge to recycle the sea algae… She also uses dying techniques in order to boost her creations. Her latest idea was a carpet made out of salmon skin, all this may seem bizarre… but I assure you that the results are impressive and on top of this she recycles natural products… She is an authentic artist full of ideas… I personally love her and strongly encourage her !
